420 Modified Annealed Stainless Steel. Type 420 stainless steel, a modification of 410, has a higher carbon content to increase hardness, improve strength and give better wear resistance.
9 rows · 420 stainless steel is a martensitic higher carbon version of types 410 and 416 stainless that
420 UNS S42000AISI Type 420 is a martensitic stainless steel that provides increased strength and hardness relative to Type 410, with moderate corrosion resistance. It is magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions. Maximum corrosion resistance is attained in the fully hardened or fully hardened and stress relieved condition.
420 Stainless Steel. The term stainless steel 420 refers to a small group of the steel alloys with similar chemical compositions, grouped together based on the judgement of SAE International, or the Society of Automotive Engineers. Grade 420 stainless steels are high carbon steels with, at minimum, a 12% chromium content.
420 stainless steel is a martensitic alloy melted as AOD or AOD + ESR. It has higher carbon than the 410 and 416 alloys giving it a higher hardness. This grade has excellent corrosion properties when hardened and offers good ductility in the annealed condition.
420 is a general purpose medium carbon straight chromium high hardenability martensitic stainless steel with good strength and fairly good corrosion resistance. It is generally supplied hardened and tempered either in the tensile range 700 850 Mpa (condition R) Brinell range 201 255, or in the tensile range 770 930 Mpa (condition S)
420 stainless steel stockholders and suppliers, delivering to the whole of the UK. West Yorkshire Steel are suppliers of 420 stainless steel grades in round bar, plate and sheet. 420 grade is a martensitic, higher carbon version of type 410.
AISI 420 stainless steel (SS420) is a straight chromium martensitic stainless steel grade with certain wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high hardness. SS420 Datasheet. The tables below give 420 stainless steel (SS420) datasheet and specification including
420 grade stainless steel has a composition of 12 to 14 percent chromium, 0.15 percent carbon, 1 percent manganese, 1 percent silicon, and tiny amounts of phosphorus and sulfur. 440 grade stainless steel has higher amounts of chromium 16 to 18 percent and carbon at 0.6 to 0.75 percent.
420 is a martensitic high carbon stainless steel that is characterized by increased corrosion resistance, strength, and hardness in comparison to 410. This grade of steel is magnetic in both annealed and hardened conditions. 420 is an ideal grade for applications requiring
420 stainless steel is known to have higher ductility, impact resistance, and shrink fits while 420F allows for faster machine speeds, longer tool life, and larger cuts. Depending on your needs for our stainless steel products, you might find that one type of grade works better for you than others.
410/420 Stainless Steel Bar UNS S41000/UNS S42000 Stainless steel 410/420, also known as UNS S41000 and UNS S42000, is considered a basic martensitic stainless steel. Comprised of 11.5% to 13.5% chromium and iron, along with trace amounts of other elements including carbon, manganese, phosphorus, silicon, and sulfur. After heat treatment, Stainless Steel 410 exhibits high []
Both cold finished AISI 316 and hardened AISI 420 are iron alloys. They have 82% of their average alloy composition in common. There are 34 material properties with values for both materials. Properties with values for just one material (2, in this case) are not shown.

420 Stainless Steel Strip is a martensitic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance as well as strength and hardness. 420 Stainless strip is popular for cutlery and cutting edge applications as well as surgical applications within the medical market.
Type 420 is a martensitic steel that provides good corrosion resistance similar to 410 with the benefit of increased strength and hardness. It is magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions. Applications include, cutlery, surgical and dental instruments, straight edges and firearms.
The first matter of concern is that 420 Stainless is a relatively wide term, because from my info, it only has a minimum C content. I will however take the typical C content to be 0.25%. Depending on the actual C content, some of the recommended temperatures may change.
Type 420 Stainless Steel, also known as surgical steel, is an often used high carbon martensitic stainless steel. It is similar to Type 410, but has more strength and hardness. It can be hardened through heat treatment, which brings good ductility for metal fabricators as well as excellent polishability. It resists corrosion in fresh water, alkalis,
Grade 420 Stainless Steel Oversize provides great corrosion resistance when polished, grounded or hardened . High carbon content and chromium makes for the hardest available stainless steel grade available. Grade 420 stainless steel can be further improved with a series of steps such as hardening, tempering and polishing. 420 stainless is preferred when used in shear blades, needle valves

Suitable for making molds, 420 stainless steel is a hard, wear resistant material that can be finely polished to a very smooth surface. It maintains its corrosion resistance in temperatures up to 1150° F.
Nov 16, 2008 · But it's the lowest end stainless, meaning it's not as good as the lowest end non stainless (tool) steel, except in the stain resisting department. Whenever a knife maker wants to put *some* sort of marketing phrase on their blades, but they do not want to put 420, they will instead put "surgical stainless steel" because that impresses some people.
