AISI 420 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. 420 is the AISI designation for this material. S42000 is the UNS number. Additionally, the British Standard (BS) designation is 420S29.
AISI 420 Stainless Steel (SS420), UNS S42000. AISI 420 stainless steel (SS420) is a straight chromium martensitic stainless steel grade with certain wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high hardness.
Pre hardened and tempered 420 will also respond readily to nitriding achieving a typical surface hardness of over Rc65. The nitriding process however reduces the corrosion resistance and is therefore not generally recommended except for critical applications where the benefit outweighs all other considerations. Material magnetic in all conditions.
X20Cr13, 1.4021, AISI 420 specification and application. Martensitic stainless steel intended for thermal improvement, showing high mechanical properties strength, ductility and machinability, while maintaining sufficient corrosion resistance. 2H13 does not show resistance to chlorine, salts and intergranular corrosion.
offers 32,972 420 material products. About 1% of these are metal building materials, 1% are other fabric, and 1% are bag fabric. A wide variety of 420 material options are available to you, such as 100% polyester, steel, and galvanized sheet.
Types 410, 420, 425 Mod, and 440A exhibit good corrosion resistance to atmospheric corrosion, potable water, and to mildly corrosive chemical enviroments because of their ability to form a tightly adherent oxide film which protects their surfaces from further attack. Alloy 420 is a martensitic stainless steel of the 12% Chromium type. Due to it's Chromium content 420 will achieve high hardness. Alloy 420 is used in many different applications including surgical and dental instruments, scissors, needle valves, gears, ball bearings, magnets etc. Alloy 420 should not be used for springs or heavily stressed parts that require to be operated at sub zero
410/420 Stainless Steel Bar UNS S41000/UNS S42000 Stainless steel 410/420, also known as UNS S41000 and UNS S42000, is considered a basic martensitic stainless steel. Comprised of 11.5% to 13.5% chromium and iron, along with trace amounts of other elements including carbon, manganese, phosphorus, silicon, and sulfur. After heat treatment, Stainless Steel 410 exhibits high []
High Performance Laminate and Prepreg. IS420 is a high performance 170°C glass transition temperature (Tg) FR 4 system for multilayer Printed Wiring Board (PWB) applications where maximum thermal performance and reliability are required.
Can we use AISI 420+stellite instead of AISI 410+stellite? This is for valve trim materials (Disc, Stem, Wedge, seat rings etc) Preliminary search on this says that they are same material with different strengths. 420 has higher carbon content. Corrosion resistance is same for both.

Grade 420 steels can be easily machined in their annealed state, but they are difficult to machine having a hardness greater than 30HRC. One of the most readily available machined alternatives is the free machining grade 416 steels. Applications Shear blades Needle valves
The steel grade 1.4021(also called ASTM 420 and SS2303) is a high tensile strength martensitic stainless steel with good corrosion properties. The steel is machinable and suits good for production of details with good resistance to e.g. air water steam, freshwater, certain alkaline solutions and other mildly aggressive chemicals.

The glove material shall have a pH value between 3,5 and 9,5. The Chrome VI level in the glove leather must stay at 2,9 mg/kg or below. If the glove contains any substances known to cause allergic reactions, it shall be stated in the product information. The glove sizes are standardized according to minimum length. EN 420:2003 has no pictogram.

With that in mind, the differences between the two grade seem to mainly be that 420 is harder than 410 (see these references410 and 420). From what you have described of the requirements (e.g. fatigue is an issue), it seems strange that grade 420 was originally specified. Typically a harder material is more brittle and has a lower fatigue
420 UNS S42000AISI Type 420 is a martensitic stainless steel that provides increased strength and hardness relative to Type 410, with moderate corrosion resistance. It is magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions. Maximum corrosion resistance is attained in the fully hardened or fully hardened and stress relieved condition.
Chemical Composition of Structural Steel 420. The chemical composition of structural steel is very important and highly regulated. It is an essential factor which defines the mechanical properties of the steel material. In the following table, the chemical composition of S420MC is displayed.
