Jun 18, 2013 · AISI 1020 carbon steel is a commonly used plain carbon steel. It has a good combination of strength and ductility and can be hardened or carburized. The following sections will discuss in detail about AISI 1020 carbon steel. Chemical Composition. The chemical composition of AISI 1020 carbon steel is outlined in the following table.
Nov 14, 2003 · At out company, we usually specify SAE J403 as the reference spec for mild steels and SAE J2340 for HSLA steels. The problem I see, is that J403 is a chemical compostion spec and the equivalent spec for alloy steels would be J404. Similarily J2340 is mechanical (mostly) and J2329 would be equivalent for low carbon steels.
Both ASTM A36 carbon steel and SAE AISI 1020 steel are iron alloys. Their average alloy composition is basically identical. There are 31 material properties with values for both materials. Properties with values for just one material (1, in this case) are not shown.
1020 steel responds well to cold work and heat treating. Weldability is fair. ApplicationsShafts, lightly stressed gears, hard wearing surfaces, pins, chains and case hardened parts where core strength is not critical. 1020 is suitable for case hardened parts where core strength is not critical. Key Words:
Both SAE AISI 1010 steel and SAE AISI 1020 steel are iron alloys. Their average alloy composition is basically identical. For each property being compared, the top bar is SAE AISI 1010 steel and the bottom bar is SAE AISI 1020 steel.

The Carbon Steel AISI 1018 / AISI 1020 Sheet Plate is the steel plate certified with AISI having the grade 1018 and 1020. There is a higher range of demand and uses for the carbon steel sheet plates. They are providing great attributes and aspects in the application of industrial purposes.
SAE J403 1020 steel plate may be hardened by heating to 1500 1670F and then quenching. When the carbon content reaches 0.20% and the manganese content reaches 0.50%, it has better strength and ductility. SAE J403 1020 steel plate is widely used in various applications by various surface treatments such as turning, polishing and cold drawing.
